Formed in 1935, Volunteer Energy Cooperative (VEC) is one of the largest rural electric cooperatives in the United States. Located at Decatur, Tenn., the company serves more than 109,000 members with 9,000 miles of power lines strung from the Georgia to the Kentucky borders. The cooperative is a non-profit organization that purchases electric power from the Tennessee Valley Authority at wholesale rates and distributes electricity to consumers. Volunteer Energy Cooperative serves all or portions of 17 counties in east and middle Tennessee including the counties of Hamilton, Bradley, Polk, McMinn, Meigs, Rhea, Roane, Loudon, Cumberland, White, Morgan, Putnam,Overton, Fentress, Pickett, Scott and Bledsoe.
