The Cumberland Electric Membership Corporation in Clarksville, Tenn., is an electric power distributor for a five-county area in northern Tennessee. This company purchases electric power from the Tennessee Valley Authority at wholesale rates and distributes it to CEMC members. The Cumberland Electric Membership Corporation is a nonprofit organization that is governed by a board of directors, who are elected by the membership. By contract, the cooperative is subject to wholesale power cost adjustments as required by the Tennessee Valley Authority. It has six district offices in Ashland City, Clarksville, Dover, Gallatin, Portland, Springfield and White House, Tenn. CEMC also offers customers information on electric appliances and energy conservation.
