He graduated from Amphitheater High school and joined the U.S. Army at the age of 17. While serving in the Infantry, he traveled the world spending two years stationed in Germany with the 8th Infantry Division. As a Mortar section Sergeant in the 82nd Airborne Division, he served in the first Gulf War.
