Lisa Uriguen Armstrong founded Trademark Management in 1993 with the sole intent of administrating a cohesive enforcement group: the Coalition to Advance the Protection of Sports logos ( CAPS ). The members of CAPS: Collegiate Licensing Company ( CLC ) ; MLB ; NBA ; NFL ; and NHL had been communicating jointly since 1992 but needed expertise in coordinating and centralizing their enforcement efforts. The CAPS members were able to consolidate their resources and collectively enforce their marks due, in great part, to the similarity in licensing, production and target audiences.
