The Children's Center of Hamden, founded in 1833, is one of the oldest chartered, private child care agencies in the United States. It provides a wide range of services to children suffering from family abuse, and emotional, behavioral, psychological and social problems. The organization provides 9- to 15-month residential programs to children, ages 7-to-18. Its day care treatment programs serve more than 80 adolescents suffering from emotional difficulties. Its outpatient program provides substance abuse treatment and counseling to teenagers and their families.
