When Bill Mathews was in Athens High School playing tennis a few years back, a professional career outside of sports wasn’t really on his mind. But the No. 1 tennis player for the Golden Eagles at that time would go on to become one of Athens’ best-known lawyers. Mathews, a life-long resident of Athens and Limestone County, earned his law degree from Samford University in Birmingham in 1989. He has practiced law in Athens for more than 20 years. In addition, Mathews is a judge, who has been residing over the municipal court system in Ardmore, Al. for the past 15 years. But most of all, Bill Mathews is a well-respected husband and daddy.
